Visual and Performing Arts
Our founder, Ramona Sahm, was a great patron of the arts. Under her leadership, the Sahm Family Foundation began a longstanding tradition of supporting the county’s preeminent theater companies, musical organizations and museums, such as the San Diego Symphony and Lux Art Institute. Over the years, the list of grantees has grown and expanded to North County, Pasadena and beyond. The Foundation is particularly interested in funding arts programming that benefits children and seniors from low-income areas, where exposure to the arts is extremely limited.
Welfare of Children
Studies show that placing a responsible adult in a child’s life is the greatest predictor of their future success. This mentorship can manifest itself in many different ways, from teachers and sports coaches to social workers and counselors. In San Diego there is no shortage of outstanding programs and leaders working to better the lives of our disadvantaged and underserved youth. And that’s why we are proud to support the mission of organizations like the YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Diego, Voices for Children, and many more.
Welfare of Seniors
At the Sahm Family Foundation, we believe supporting seniors is an urgent priority as our population ages. Census data predicts that by the year 2030 there will be nearly 1 million people over the age of 60 living in San Diego—double the amount that exists today. This is part of a national trend that marks one of the largest demographic shifts in U.S. history. That’s why we are committed to funding programs that provide vital resources for older adults, such as housing, transportation, employment training, and care.
