Sahm Family Gifts $1.75M to the Symphony’s New Bayside Performance Park
In December 2019, the Sahm Family Foundation announced a $1.75 million grant to the San Diego Symphony for its new Bayside Performance Park. The state-of-the-art venue, located at the edge of Embarcadero Marina Park South, will become the permanent home of the Symphony’s Summer Pops concert series and stands to transform the city’s waterfront, offering a new year-round entertainment space, tree-lined promenades and grassy picnic areas, and much more. The Foundation’s grant is the latest in a long-standing tradition of giving to the local philharmonic.
The Sahm family’s love of the performing arts traces back to its matriarch, Ramona Sahm, who began hosting Christmas Musicales for the Symphony in the 1970s at her Del Dios Ranch. There, hundreds of music lovers would enjoy a festive holiday program, surrounded by the property’s verdant grounds and warmth of Ramona’s hospitality.
Decades later, the Sahm Family Foundation carries on Ramona’s legacy with its continued support of the Symphony—one of Southern California’s great artistic treasures. Since its start in 1997, the Foundation has made numerous grants to the orchestra, helping fund various projects and programs, including a recent initiative to provide low-income seniors with free tickets to Symphony performances.
